Oregon Property Owners

It’s official!  closed on our first property in Oregon.  We now own Oregon real estate!  We are no longer homeless (although technically it’s only been two weeks since we sold our California property).

And was it a process!

We started seriously looking at Oregon property over 10 months ago and put in more offers than houses we actually viewed.

We put in offers on properties ranging from 40+ acre timber farms to smaller subdivision homes.

We always put in full price if not offer.

The point I’m trying to make is we weren’t picky!  And it still took 10 months to close on a place.  We had not anticipated this.  We already went through this in California back in 2013 when we were being outbid by every cash offer investor.  It was tough.  But surely Oregon couldn’t have that level of competition.  Well, it did.  At least this year.

We had been told 2018 has been the most unpredictable year for real estate in Oregon.  It skyrocketed and the market was extremely competitive.  So lucky us (total sarcasm!).

Purchasing a house out of state with two toddlers, a mother on bed rest, pregnant, and a full time working hubby was no easy task.  But it was not horrible either! If I had to get on that roller coaster again, here would be my words of advice.

  • Be patient.  Be patient with your family, with your kids, with your husband, but most importantly be patient with yourself.
  • Everything happens for a reason!!!  This was my saving grace.  My daily mantra.

  • It’s okay to be emotional and be emotionally attached to a property.  Believe me, I wish I had an on/off switch to help better control this.  We are emotional creatures and this just comes with the territory, especially when it involves so many aspects of your life and is probably one of the biggest financial decisions you’ll make.  But before you start planning where furniture is going and picturing the next birthday party, remember everything happens for a reason!! If your offer is not accepted, or a problem arises, it’s not the end of the world.  It might feel like it at the time, but there is another house out there meant for you!
  • Everything happens for a reason!!! I can’t stress this enough.  It has helped get me through some rough patches.  In 5 years you will be looking back with a great sense of appreciation for what you endured to get your property.   Plus you will probably have pretty good stories!!

Remember you are strong, you are determined, you are incredible.  Most importantly, you got this!
